Creative Prompt & Response Writer, US/Canada
About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with meaningful annotation projects that shape how modern AI systems behave and learn.
Working with OpenTrain means joining the human side of AI: contributors directly influence model performance while building flexible, remote-friendly experience in a fast-growing field.
Why AI training work matters
AI training (also called data labeling or human-feedback work) is where people prepare the examples that teach models to understand language and visual content. Contributors' writing and judgments are essential to safe, accurate, and helpful AI.
This field offers flexible, accessible work that often fits around other commitments and lets you work on the cutting edge of applied AI without needing to be an engineer.
The Role
We are hiring experienced creative writers based in the United States or Canada to craft high-quality prompt-and-response pairs for supervised fine-tuning (SFT) of language models. You will generate original prompts and fully written responses derived from website screenshots provided by OpenTrain AI.
This is contract, part-time work. You must be able to start immediately and commit to at least 20 hours per week; more availability is preferred.
- Label type: PROMPT_RESPONSE_WRITING_SFT
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
- Location requirement: Must be based in the U.S. or Canada
What you'll do
Create clear, engaging, and contextually relevant question-and-answer pairs from website screenshots (for example: homepages, product pages, event banners, navigation/search elements). Responses must be original and written from scratch — this project does not use pre-written answer selection.
Follow detailed guidelines to ensure consistency, tone, and structure. Analyze visual and textual cues in the screenshot and translate them into thoughtful, informative prompts and well-structured responses that help models interpret web content.
- Write both the prompt (question) and the full response, ensuring relevance to the screenshot.
- Produce responses that are specific, detailed, and helpful for model training.
- Adhere to style and formatting rules provided by OpenTrain AI and maintain high quality across batches.
Requirements
You must be a native English speaker based in the U.S. or Canada with a bachelor’s degree (any field; English, Journalism, or Communications preferred). Strong creative and technical writing skills are required.
Prior experience writing prompt-response pairs for AI/LLMs is highly preferred. Experience on other data annotation platforms is a strong plus but not required.
- Native English speaker and resident of the U.S. or Canada
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Proven writing skills: creative, structured, and detail-oriented
- Prior experience with prompt-and-response or AI data annotation preferred
- Able to start immediately and commit 20+ hours/week
- Comfortable following detailed guidelines and working independently
Interview test and sample task
As part of the interview, you will complete a short test: you will receive a Task Overview and Task Description (similar to the example below) and must submit one high-quality prompt-and-response pair as if you were doing the task.
Example test overview: a screenshot of an online bookstore homepage with New Arrivals, Best Sellers, Genres, a search bar, and an author Q&A banner. Your submission should include one detailed question and one well-structured, context-specific response that demonstrates your ability to analyze visual web content.
- During interview, you will be asked to produce a sample prompt and response based on a provided screenshot.
- The sample must be original, specific, and show attention to context and detail.
