Electrical Commissioning Engineer (UPS & Battery Systems)
Job Purpose: To lead the installation, integration, and commissioning of UPS systems and lithium-ion battery cabinets for a critical power / data center project. This role covers the full lifecycle, from equipment verification and mechanical installation through energization, functional testing, and Level 3 - 5 commissioning support. Key Responsibilities: Installation & Integration • Oversee transport, positioning, and floor anchoring of UPS units, I/O cabinets, and battery modules • Verify delivered equipment against approved Bill of Materials (BOM); report discrepancies before work begins • Perform I/O Cabinet integration with UPS systems, including busbar connections, control wiring, and communication interfaces per drawings and manuals • Terminate battery power cables, input/output flanges, cable glands, and protective earth connections Battery System Work • Conduct pre-installation inspection of battery modules (visual checks, serial verification, voltage measurement, impedance testing) • Perform battery balancing using approved charging/discharging kits • Interconnect battery modules, assemble fuse kits, and verify torque values per specifications • Check for abnormal voltage deviations across battery modules and strings Startup & Commissioning • Execute startup and energization of UPS and battery systems per procedures • Update UPS firmware to the latest approved version • Verify system operation across Normal, Static Bypass, Maintenance Bypass, and Battery modes • Perform functional and transfer testing; confirm output voltage, waveform, and system parameters are within spec • Deliver standard Startup Reports and consultant-approved Level 3 (L3) reports Testing & On-Site Support • Support Level 4 testing: 4-hour burn-in tests, battery autonomy verification, performance data collection via UPS HMI and power analyzer • Provide standby technical support during Level 5 testing, including fault analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective action recommendations Qualifications and Experience: • Proven experience with UPS installation and/or commissioning • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery systems, torque specifications, and electrical testing procedures • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals • Experience with L3-L5 commissioning documentation and reporting • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices in critical power environments Show more Show less
