DEPARTMENT: Employment, Language, and Social Enterprise

POSITION FUNCTION

  • Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members. The class is fully online composed of asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS, synchronous workshops via Zoom and Office Hours-short 1-on-1 meetings with clients.
  • Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and goal setting and responding to those needs
  • Provide appropriate feedback to students to further language learning and aid in meeting goals.
  • Create a warm, inclusive and safe online learning environment
  • Assess and provide feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and best practices of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
  • Provide feedback on curriculum and work with team to adjust curriculum to meet client needs and provide an optimum learning experience

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
  • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods.
  • Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.32 per hour HOURS: Full time, 35 hours per week; EVE shifts 6:00 pm-9:30 pm synchronous classes, and attend a weekly 11:00 am Monday meeting.

The successful candidate may be permitted to work a hybrid schedule, however, the successful candidate must be able to commute to 2730 Commercial Drive, Vancouver office location for in-office days.

BENEFITS: A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
