Key responsibilities

Main purpose of the job
Responsible for the study, design, specification, and detailed design of conventional devices, systems, units, or facilities within the electrical discipline. Receives assignments of limited scope and complexity, usually minor phases of broader assignments. Analyses technical documents and proposes solutions based upon standard engineering methods and techniques as well as practical experience. Works independently, but with technical guidance, to develop or adapt drawings, documents, and databases based upon established examples, procedures, or upon detailed instruction by more senior engineers. Decisions are made within established guidelines. Results are usually reviewed in detail.

Job objectives

  • Prepare basic electrical engineering documents including cable, earthing, lighting, and equipment layouts, as well as selection, sizing, and specification of electrical equipment.
  • Use discipline-specific tools for calculations and design, such as Dialux, under supervision.
  • Prepare or adapt new or existing drawings and documents for project-specific objectives.
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply codes, standards, and specifications to the work for conventional systems. Make engineering decisions based on analysis.
  • Review vendor technical and/or commercial quotations for conventional systems and make vendor recommendations.
  • Act as the document owner for personal documents, including checking, validation, scope management, change management, and document management.
  • Identify and communicate impacts of own work on other disciplines. Conduct basic interdisciplinary checks.
  • Participate in the preparation of cross-function deliverables including technical evaluations, engineering requisitions, proposals, and estimates for conventional systems within the electrical discipline.
  • Contribute to project and/or departmental meetings, technical reviews, and safety reviews.
  • Demonstrate time management and budget awareness through management of individual tasks to budget hours.
  • Develop management skills, including scheduling and budgeting of own time, working to procurement budgets, etc.
  • Work independently on-site (if required).
  • Assume other duties as may be required from time to time.

Impact and accountability
Impact: A project contributor, but impact is limited to own scope. Recommendations are limited to the solution to the problem rather than the end results.
Accountability: Accountable for the technical accuracy, scope management, and quality of own work. Aware of budgets associated with own work.

HSE and quality responsibilities
Maintain standards of HSE and comply with Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements. Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others in the workplace. Follow and maintain standards of quality in accordance with the Quality System requirements.

Requirements

  • B.E. or equivalent Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Typically, 2-3 years post-graduate work experience in engineering consultancy or EPC company within the oil & gas industry.
  • Conversant with load calculations and cable sizing techniques.
