Maintenance Planner
Introduction
MAINTENANCE PLANNERCape Town | Manufacturing / GMP Environment - Only candidates from the Westerncape will be considered.
Role Overview The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability, compliance, and minimal downtime within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
This role sits at the centre of Engineering, Production, and Stores/Procurement, ensuring smooth and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop preventative maintenance (PM) plans for all plant equipment
- Generate weekly and shutdown maintenance schedules
- Convert work requests into fully planned job packs (labour, parts, tools)
- Ensure all maintenance is planned to minimise production disruption
- CMMS / System Management
- Manage and update CMMS systems (SAP / Pragma or similar)
- Create, track, and close work orders
- Capture accurate maintenance history and asset data
- Generate reports (downtime, MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance)
- Scope jobs and define:
- Labour hours
- Required skills
- Materials and spares
- Ensure parts availability before work starts
- Coordinate closely with stores and procurement
- Shutdown & Project Planning
- Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns and major maintenance work
- Develop schedules (Gantt charts / critical path)
- Coordinate contractors and internal teams
- Analyse breakdown data and trends
- Support root cause analysis (RCA)
- Improve maintenance strategies and PM routines
- Identify recurring failures and implement improvements
- Compliance & Quality Standards
- Ensure all maintenance aligns with:
- GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
- ISO and quality standards
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails
- Ensure safety procedures are embedded in all job plans

- QA / Compliance Teams
- National Diploma / Degree in:
- Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering
OR Trade Tested Artisan (Millwright / Electrician)
- Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering
- 3–5+ years’ experience in maintenance planning
- Strong CMMS experience (SAP / Pragma preferred)
- Experience in manufacturing environments:
- FMCG / Pharma / Biotech / Industrial
- Strong Excel and reporting capabilit
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Effective cross-functional communication
- High level of accuracy (audit/compliance driven)
- Problem-solving mindset
- Highly regulated, clean manufacturing environment
- Exposure to:
