Responsibilities
Show knowledge of all hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures, including infection control, fire and safety, and quality improvement.
Ensure patients receive safe and rational drug therapy by dispensing medicines and medical supplies according to in‑patient physician orders, valid outpatient prescriptions, and controlled substances.
Review and interpret physician drug orders for clarity, accuracy, rational dosage, and potential interactions; resolve discrepancies promptly with physicians.
Use patient profile data (age, weight, diagnosis, renal and hepatic function) to assess treatment appropriateness.
Compounding sterile and non‑sterile preparations using aseptic techniques, ensuring compatibility of additives and correct flow rates for IV admixtures.
Label IV bottles with complete patient identification, dose, units, flow rate, and expiration date.
Supervise assistant pharmacists and pharmacy personnel, providing direction and ensuring adherence to procedures and standards.
Prepare stock requests, conduct monthly inspections of nursing and drug‑user units, and manage drug storage conditions to prevent expired or deteriorated drugs from reaching patients.
Participate in quality assurance activities, including medication administration monitoring, prescription review, and medication usage evaluation; analyze drug usage patterns and advise on control measures.
Provide drug information and counseling to health‑care team and patients, including dosage recommendations for elderly or renal‑impaired patients and instructions for device usage.
Deliver in‑service education to medical staff on accurate prescribing, antibiotic guidelines, and emergency‑department protocols; train new pharmacy team members.
Report drug incidents, support risk‑management activities, and develop standardized IV infusion guidelines for high‑risk medications.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college.
License to practice pharmacy in Saudi Arabia.
Minimum two years of professional pharmacy experience.
Good command of English; Arabic preferred or highly desirable.
Effective, compassionate communication skills and proficiency in problem solving and clinical decision‑making.
Positive attitude, ability to work under pressure, and respect for patient privacy and dignity.
