Public Utilities Internship - High School Student job at City of El Dorado. El Dorado, KS.

PUBLIC UTILITIES INTERNSHIP
WATER DISTRIBUTION AND SEWER COLLECTIONS

Hours:  M-F 8:00-3:00, flexible scheduling available
$12.50 per hour

The City of El Dorado is looking for a high school student who has an interest the Public Utilities Department, specifically the Water Distribution and Sewer Collections division.

Qualifications:
  • Entering Junior or Senior year of high school, at least 16 years old as of 05/01/2024.
  • Maintain regular attendance and be punctual
  • Available for a minimum of 5 weeks, possibility to extend.
  • Complete on-the-job training and any required reading in a timely manner
  • Possess basic computer skills necessary to perform job function
  • Must be comfortable working outside
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in inventory management, counting, and reorganizing all parts applicable to the improvement and maintenance of water distribution mains and services as well as sanitary sewer collection mains.
  • Assist in records management pertaining to water and sewer work orders and fire department hydrant annual reports, sort and compile relevant information into easily searchable stacks for later processing into a digital format (Brightly, GIS, ETC.)
  • Assist in data entry utilizing the KDHE lead service line inventory spreadsheet, sort and compile all exposed service work sheets for more efficient form entry.
  • Work alongside the water distribution crew to better understand how we function as a municipal utility.
