<p><strong>Job Title: </strong>Radiation Safety Specialist</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Division or Department: </strong>Research & Academic Safety / Health, Safety & Environment</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Reports to: </strong>Research Safety Manager</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Position Summary</strong></p><p><br></p><p>The Radiation Safety Specialist establishes, operates and manages the radiation safety program at KAUST, including assessing potential exposures to radiation. He / She supports university staff, faculty, and students in the management of Campus HSE compliance. The scope may be extended to business partners and industry collaborators when deemed applicable.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Major Responsibilities</strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Ensure regulatory compliance of radiation safety program with local regulations and international guidelines KAUST subscribes to.</li><li>Ensures a safe working research and educational environment with respect to the use of radiation for research at KAUST.</li><li>Establish Radiation Safety Program in accordance with regulatory requirements and KAUST operational needs.</li><li>Manage Radiation Safety Program to support undisrupted radiation research activities; obtaining all necessary licenses and permits.</li><li>Serves as the principal technical resource to departmental and campus management on matters relating to radiation safety.</li><li>Review and approve radioactive material purchase request orders.</li><li>Reviews research protocols and safety plans involving use of radiation.</li><li>Writes reports and other forms of scientific or technical documentation, including revising the University Radiation Safety Program, Manual, and other documents as appropriate.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Competencies</strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Extensive knowledge of university research-related radiation safety standards and codes.</li><li>Skill in operation and maintenance of radiation monitoring and testing equipment.</li><li>Excellent verbal and written English skills.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific or public health field.</li><li>Membership in a relevant professional organization preferred.</li><li>KSA Radiation Protection Officer training preferred.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Experience</strong></p><p><br></p><ul><li>Minimum six (6) years of professional experience including program development in radiation safety at universities or another research environment.</li></ul>
