Job Description Summary

The Technical Sales Application Engineer (AE) serves as the interface between Sales , commercial, Engineering, other AEs in Factory, customers and Execution team.



In this role, you will drive business growth by collaborating with the Regional Sales team to develop comprehensive bid proposals for Field Interventions, Maintenance (VFDs, Motors, Generators), Repairs, Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs), and Control & Modernization Upgrades (CMU) for Power Electronics and associated systems (Excitation/AVR). The AE has to go through complex customer bid proposal and develop a suitable technical proposal and build cost as per the GEV standards incorporating company requirements. The AE is responsible for the technical solutions and the cost associated with it.


Beyond proposal development, the AE spearheads service campaigns—tracking progress alongside sales managers and providing the technical leverage needed to generate leads and close deals across the Oil & Gas, Industry, Power Generation, Marine, Synchronous condenser and Heavy Industry (Metals, Mining, Material Handling) sectors. The AE need to be independent to drive campaigns and also to face customer meetings.

  • Developing specialized knowledge of latest commercial developments in own area and communication skills to influence others. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems within projects, product lines, markets, sales processes, campaigns or customers. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Build technical and commercial proposals for Field Interventions, Maintenance, Repairs, Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs), and Control & Modernization Upgrades (CMUs).
  • Drive, track, and review strategic service campaigns with Sales Managers to unlock new opportunities and win deals.
  • The AE would be responsible for reviewing customer specifications, understanding requirements, prepare deviations to specifications, interface with concerned manufacturing facility AE to generate CMU, VFD, Motor/generator design & develop a competitive proposal that is in line with requirements.
  • If certain specific customer requirements are not technically feasible due to manufacturing limitations or are prohibitively expensive without bringing tangible benefit for the customer application, these shall be discussed with customer/consultant to arrive at an acceptable solution.
  • The Technical staff shall also bring to the attention of the customer/design consultant any mandatory missing specifications for inclusion.
  • In certain cases where the end user is directly involved the AE shall recommend additional features which bring long term benefit to the end user, as options for his consideration.
  • Support regional sales managers to identify potential customers who could be targeted for Maintenance, Replacement, Inspection of all GEV PCS products.
  • Shall be able to assess and confirm capabilities of sub suppliers/workshops where overhaul or repair of motors & Generators could be carried out.
  • Assist Sales Manager to define repairs, power upgrades and replacement of competitor IB.
  • Shall ensure that all due process is followed. This shall include R1, Technical Risk analysis & Compliance plan before firm proposal issuance & proper handover to execution team after receipt of PO.
  • Requires specialized knowledge across GEV PCS product lines, markets, sales processes, or customer groups.
  • Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to partners or customers. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and can construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a direction.
  • Shall be able to prioritize & manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Shall possess proven interpersonal skills & excellent command in English, as Communication with direct colleagues, customers and the business about design and coordination services should have to be rendered. Being Multilinguistic is an added advantage.
  • The Technical staff need to work very closely with CoE in Massy, Berlin, & RM factories(Nancy, Rugby, Peterborough) and have good domain knowledge to collaborate with customers and workshops on spare opportunities and repair solutions
  • The Technical staff should have good knowledge on GEPC solutions like TIMSA, APM and Digital solutions on RM inspection
  • Well conversant on minor, major maintenance procedures and major overhaul of various GEV PCS Products.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working on HV VFD system, Electrical Rotating machinery,  with knowledge on associated systems(AVR, Excitation, Process control, Automation PLC systems.
  • Prior Experience in bid preparation and building cost model
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
