Role Purpose:

The Senior Accountant / Assistant Manager – Australian Taxation is responsible for managing a portfolio of Australian clients by delivering high-quality tax compliance, advisory, and reporting services. The role ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and tax obligations, supports tax planning initiatives, maintains strong client relationships, and contributes to team development and business growth while adhering to Australian taxation laws and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing WIPs, productivity and billing clients as required by the Partner / Manager.
  • Meeting deadlines and providing quality and timely service to the client.
  • Managing client relationships and maintaining a high level of communication and service to all clients.
  • Perform all compliance and value add work as required to a quality and high standard.
  • Prepare standard and complex financial reports, income tax returns, activity statements (BAS) and FBT returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies with limited supervision or direction.
  • Implement tax planning strategies.
  • Prepare and review work papers, analysis of client data and transactions.
  • Set up client jobs within the accounting software database, in accordance with Sinclair Wilson policy and procedures.
  • Assist with business consulting and tax advisory engagements.
  • Detailed knowledge of ATO correspondence and procedures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of company secretarial matters such as lodgments, fees and general requirements.
  • Technically proficient in all client software, systems and processes.
  • Proactive towards research and ongoing learning with the developments of taxation law, relevant legislation and accounting standards.
  • Identify and develop existing and potential business opportunities within the Senior Accountant’s client base and discuss this with the Partner / Manager.
  • Assist with potential and new client opportunities or initiatives such as preparation of advice and presentations.
  • Attendance of all internal training and presentations, where applicable.
  • Provide support and assistance to all staff, where appropriate.
  • Other duties as required by Partners / Manager.

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Professional certification qualifications, either CA or CPA.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience as a professional accountant.
  • Advanced working knowledge of GST, activity statements (BAS) and installment activity statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate and research complex matters.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven excellence in cultivating and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Exceptional time management and planning skills, with the ability to monitor and progress jobs efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective and experienced in supervisory and delegation.
