The Role

We are seeking an experienced Settlement Officer / Banking Operations professional to coordinate transaction settlement, reconciliation, payment processing, exception management, and operational controls.

The ideal candidate has strong banking-operations knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage time-sensitive financial transactions accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and monitor daily banking and financial-market settlement activities.
  • Verify transaction details, settlement instructions, payment information, counterparties, and relevant documentation.
  • Ensure transactions are settled accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing payments, transfers, securities transactions, and settlement instructions.
  • Investigate failed, delayed, rejected, unmatched, or disputed transactions and coordinate appropriate resolution.
  • Perform daily reconciliations between internal systems, bank statements, clearing platforms, and external counterparties.
  • Identify and investigate reconciliation breaks, discrepancies, and outstanding items.
  • Coordinate with front office, treasury, finance, compliance, risk, relationship-management, and external banking teams.
  • Maintain accurate settlement records, transaction logs, confirmations, and supporting documentation.
  • Review settlement instructions and ensure appropriate authorization and control procedures are followed.
  • Monitor payment cut-off times, settlement deadlines, holidays, and market-specific processing requirements.
  • Assist with payment investigations, returned funds, rejected payments, and transaction amendments.
  • Support account opening, static-data maintenance, counterparty setup, and settlement-instruction updates where applicable.
  • Verify account and beneficiary information in accordance with internal controls.
  • Monitor operational risks and escalate unusual transactions, control breaches, or potential fraud indicators.
  • Assist with exception reporting, operational dashboards, daily controls, and management reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate transaction records and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain strong segregation-of-duties and maker-checker controls throughout operational processes.
  • Ensure confidential financial, customer, payment, and transaction information is handled securely.
  • Identify opportunities to improve settlement workflows, reduce manual processing, and strengthen operational efficiency.
  • Support implementation and testing of banking-system, payment-platform, and process changes.
  • Follow applicable banking regulations, internal policies, AML/KYC requirements, data-protection standards, and operational procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in banking operations, settlements, payments, treasury operations, securities operations, or financial services is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, transaction processing, reconciliations, payments, and settlement procedures.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of numerical accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive transactions and operational deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with banking platforms, payment systems, treasury systems, settlement platforms, or financial operations software.
  • Strong Excel skills, including data analysis, reconciliation, lookup functions, and reporting.
  • Understanding of SWIFT, SEPA, correspondent banking, clearing systems, or securities settlement is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of securities, foreign exchange, treasury, or capital-markets operations is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AML/KYC, sanctions screening, operational-risk controls, and financial regulations is advantageous.
  • Experience with systems such as Murex, Calypso, Finastra, Temenos, SAP, Oracle, or similar financial platforms is advantageous.
  • UAE or MENA banking and financial-services experience is advantageous.
  • ACCA, CFA, CMA, CIMA, CAMS, or other relevant professional qualifications are advantageous but not required.
