About the Role

Provide oral and written translation and interpretation of correspondences, forms, articles, technical manuals and other instructional and technical materials from English to Arabic and vice versa; perform related clerical duties; and provide direction and guidance to the Translator. The Senior Translator classification serves as a lead, training and providing work direction to assigned personnel.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform translation of written text from Arabic into English (and vice versa) in various business settings.
  • Translate accurately and concisely documents and other materials from English into Arabic and vice versa, with attention to fact and nuance, so that the intent and tone of the original meaning is preserved. 
  • Edit, standardize, proofread, revise and finalize translated material prepared by other employees and contractors.
  • Organize translated material and finalize translation according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. 
  • Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology pertinent to the assigned projects.
  • Consult with experts in specialist areas; retain and develop specialist knowledge on specialist areas of translation.
  • Create writing instructions, reference and maintenance manuals for the translation service team.
  • Contribute to creating and enriching an in-house terminology database.
  • Maintain confidentiality of the company documents and correspondences.
  • Contribute to developing and coaching other translators in a less senior role.
  • Prepare translation reports and documentation.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the company. 

General: 

  1. Incorporate zero harm into staff yearly performance reviews by incorporating and taking into consideration, staff commitment to the Qatar Rail values of safety and environment.
  2. Commitment to the Zero Harm Ethos by leading by example and taking personal responsibility for their own health and safety and proactively ensuring that any health and safety concerns observed are raised to prevent harm.
  3. Support the QR Environmental program in reducing QR carbon footprint.
  4. Managers need to be familiar with relevant laws, regulations and standards that apply to their area of operation. 
  5. Proactive identification of potential hazards/environmental aspects and implementing effective control measures to minimize risks.
  6. Liaise with HSE professionals from QSHESE Department on complex issues.
  7. Comply with Qatar Rail’s Company Management System requirements which covers Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Information Security, Business continuity, Security and Emergency preparedness requirements.
  8. Attendance of any QSHESE Induction, training, briefing, or meeting as and when required and/or requested. 
  9. Be mindful that Health and Safety, Quality, Security and Environment is everyone’s responsibility and as such all-Qatar Rail employees are accountable for reporting and intervening in Health, Safety, Quality, Security and Environmental violations.
  10. Report all incidents and/or near misses, and/or unsafe acts or conditions and where appropriate make recommendations for improvement.
  11. Ensure your visitor (including contractors, PMCs) are aware of Qatar Rail premise’s emergency response plans. 
  12. Act ethically and within Qatar Rail’s Code of Conduct. 
  13. Undertake additional tasks as required based emerging business needs.

Accountabilities:   

The holder of this position is responsible for the quality of the final translation; ensure it is free of any mistakes or faults, the remaining of the original text is conveyed correctly and the translation is submitted on time with no delays.

 


What do we need from you

Education

Bachelor’s degree in English Language or a similar degree.

Experience

Minimum 5-year experience in technical translation (preferably related to railways and transportation).  

Skills 

  • Excellent background in technical translation and technical writing, especially in legal and engineering settings. 
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) 
  • Excellent communication skills with a diverse range of people and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent Language skills. 
  • Must be fluent in both Arabic and English languages.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English and Arabic languages including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, grammar, and history.
  • Communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the reader/audience.
