Job Description:

Location: hybrid, work from home

This role requires a blend of underwriting expertise, analytical skills, and a forward-thinking approach to drive innovation, increase straight through underwriting and improve risk assessment. The successful candidate will collaborate with many other teams including data science, underwriting operations, IT, corporate underwriting, pricing and data analytics to complete initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Build, maintain and enhance the rules in the Underwriting Rules Engine (URE) to manage the underwriting risk while driving increases in Straight Through Underwriting (STE)
  • Prepare reports and analyze underwriting data to identify opportunities to improve Straight Through Underwriting
  • Support the development of analytical underwriting models by acting as a subject matter expert
  • Conduct protective value studies to monitor the performance of the analytical models and to improve risk selection
  • Participate in or lead projects to drive underwriting innovation by collaborating cross functionally
  • Training and support of underwriting operations as it relates to the tools developed by our team
What do you need to succeed?
  • Experience/familiarity with Tableau, advanced Excel skills and an interest/background in data analysis
  • At least five years of life and critical illness underwriting experience with current authority in both
  • Exhibit a strong interest in the future of underwriting and underwriting innovation
  • Be a Certified Professional Underwriter with a FALU designation or working to achieve the designation
  • Strong analytical and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and make decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
